BladeRunner 2049

Awesome visuals, really something else. The sets, cinematography, and sheer world building this movie makes is unseen in my experience. I would describe this as an amalgamation of the best visuals from many different movies into one single film. The work the effects/set makers and cinematographer must have had, should be commended.

Surrealism:

  1. One of my favorite types of art is surrealism. The ability to take reality and morph it into something completely new and mind opening takes creativity and to do it well is truly remarkable.
  2. This movie does this extremely well and for the first time in a long time, made a scene that I was actually mesmerized by. It’s a love scene involving a hologram and while that may not sound interesting, the way it was done, to me, was exactly what surrealism tries to accomplish. Change our perception of reality.

The story story will probably be mixed in its reception, personally, I think the story was engaging and well done. However, it is a very slow burning candle and while the candle may burn different colors and sparkle and do some amazing things, most of the time its just burning. This may be a turn off for some, as patience and appreciation for the themes and surroundings are needed. If you pay attention to the little things in this movie, like the theme of what it means to be human, it can provide some thought provoking entertainment.

My recommendation for enjoying this movie:

See this movie in 4dx if you can. This movie may not seem like a 4dx type of movie, but it really engrosses you in this movie as the atmosphere is what makes this movie something for the ages.

If you do not have 4dx then definitely in IMAX or whatever the biggest most detailed screen you can find, as this movie is meant to be appreciated on a big screen.
